Thankfulness {Day 23} Heaven is Full of Babies

Did you know that God loves babies? You say, of course. But did you know the Bible tells us explicitly that He does?


Our pastor preached out of Mark 10:13-16, where the people brought their children (the actual words indicate these are infants and young children) to Jesus and then He touched them and blessed them. Why wouldn't He? He created them.


Even though we are all born sinners, babies and young children have no idea they are sinning. They are not at an age where they are accountable for their sins. Therefore, if for some reason a baby or young child does not live long enough to be accountable for their sins, they go right into the arms of their heavenly Father. They spend the rest of their forever in heaven.


So when a young baby or child has an illness and passes away - they are in heaven. When a Mom has a miscarriage and never gets the chance to meet that child, they are in the arms of God. When a woman is deceived into thinking she has a choice about whether the life inside her lives or dies, that baby is alive in heaven with their Creator.


Another place in the bible that supports this is in the passage in 1 Samuel that talks about Kind David grieving the loss of his baby boy (you know the story, right? He had an affair, then had her husband killed and part of the punishment was that the baby they had conceived became ill and then died). When the child was sick, David was terribly upset. It says that he refused to eat and went in to lay on the ground the entire duration of the illness (seven days). When the baby died something strange happened. We find it here in 2 Samuel 12:20-23:

So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his own house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate. ²¹ Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child died, you arose and ate food.”    

David's servants were confused, so David explained....

 And he (David) said, “While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who can tell whether the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again?
I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”

So David is declaring that He will one day be with his child again in heaven. What a wonderful blessing to know that heaven is full of babies!!

So if you have ever had a miscarriage, abortion or lost a child to an illness, you can be sure to know that baby is waiting for you in heaven in the arms of our loving Father.

Thank You, Lord for loving all babies,

even the ones that seem to be 'unwanted'.

So when you think about evangelizing, does anyone come to mind? Do you think God has put that person on your heart so that you will share the most important truth with them that they will ever hear.

If no one comes to mind, pray. Pray that God would bring people to you who need to hear the gospel. Pray that He would give you the courage to share when He does bring you opportunities (because He will deliver).

So who is that person? Friend, relative, neighbor?

What I learned at church this week.

Each Sunday afternoon (or maybe Monday morning depending how crazy the Sunday is) I am going to start writing about something that I learned at church - and I don't mean the latest bit of juicy prayer gossip. I mean a wonderful truth from God's word that I think others would enjoy learning as well.


This week, the sermon was on the 3rd of the 10 Commandments. Do you know which one that one is? Can you name all 10 commandments?

“You shall not take the

name of the LORD your God in vain,

for the LORD will not hold him guiltless

who takes His name in vain." 
Exodus 20:7

Now I am sure the first thing that comes to mind is someone using the Lord's name as a profanity. That's the obvious answer. But our pastor gave 2 others ways that might hit home...

1. Trite or thoughtless prayer and worship. Do you have words and phrases - Christian-ese verbiage - that you say when you are praying? Do you pray to God as if you are talking with a buddy? He is the holy Creator of the universe and He is worthy of our sincere, thoughtful, honoring and respectful worship and prayers. Since He takes time to listen to our prayers, we need to treat that precious time with respect.

2. Worldly behavior. You see, if you are a believer and claim that you are a "Christian" then you are a living example of the name of God. Your character, lifestyle choices, entertainment choices, speech, conduct, and reputation either honors or takes His name in vain. If you are a Christian, then you need to act like one or just stop calling yourself a Christian. Choose sides and stop straddling the fence. Do not make light of the Christian walk or my Savior.

So that is what I learned at church this week (aka - conviction point).
